My dear friends and family,
This week was filled with many wonderful experiences and many adventures! A great week in paradise. Honestly, I wish that I could share this warmth with each of you. It is an interesting way that time passes here. As if it is still June, rather than January. I think it is wonderful!
Sister Cervantes and I worked this week with Sister Larona, because her companion needed to see a doctor in Manila for her eye. It was wonderful to be a trio again - much like being at home with my two favorite sisters! :-) We laughed, worked, and learned together. Sister Larona has a great sense of humor and is such an effective missionary. She is an amazing example of being a light and example of how to be an instrument in the hands of the Lord.
We had a spontaneous service project to hand wash the laundry of a woman in Sister Larona's ward in Maribago. Her name is Judith and was feeling so sick, unable to finish her laundry. It was such a humbling experience for my companions and I, but I really loved it. It felt as if I had become a Filipina! I really do hope to develop the attributes of these diligent, graceful, charitable Filipina women. They are each so amazing and I am grateful to serve among them.
As well, as we were tracting together this week, I made a new friend! A carmel colored baby kanding, a goat! It made my day, and I am so grateful. Although so simple, I gave her a little hug and really felt loved by the Lord. What a beautiful world we have to enjoy!
As well, yesterday I had the privilege to talk with Justine. An amazingly joyful 12 year old boy, who has a serious physical disability. Although the family is unaware of what exactly his condition is, I believe that it is something similar to palsy. It is incredibly difficult for him to move and speak, but his mind is very aware. He stays in his home all day, almost always alone, and has a small window through which we talk. Yesterday, he taught me words in Cebuano and I taught him words in English! Such a privilege!
This week I heard a quote that I have been pondering, "Compared to God, man is nothing; yet we are everything to God." (President Uchtdorf) The love of God is real and the proof is in the many wonderful experiences that we enjoy each day! This life is to be enjoyed! I love you all! Thank you for you support and encouragement to me. I feel of your love. Enjoy the journey!
Love,
Sister Shanna Stanley
