Hello, my friends and family,
Happy New Year! I hope all is well for you and that your goals and resolutions will help you come unto Christ! We are enjoying this, the work of the Lord. Thank you for your faithful prayers and encouragement for us as missionaries. We feel of your love and concern!
All is well, here in the Lapu Lapu 1st ward. I am beginning to understand Sister Cervantes more, there is so much for me to learn from her! The missionary leaders here are great, they do well to check on our work and offer their advice and counsel. The advice we received this morning is to spend more time tracting, in order to gain new investigators. I appreciate that they are following up on us. Also, they are assisting us to find a new apartment that is within our area. Quite an interesting task for me, but I am grateful for this challenge and opportunity. My hope is that with the holidays finishing, we will be able to proceed in our work, progress in this area, and find a balance in all things, through the guidance of the Spirit. It is so comforting to me to know that this is the Lord's work. Although I am far from perfect, and my faith in myself is weak at this time, I am doing all that I can to turn outward, to serve those whom I am with at this time and continue in faith.
My focus for study this week, is gaining the companionship of the Holy Spirit always, as promised in the Sacrament prayers. One wonderful scripture with a promise that I found is this,
“And now, verily, verily, I say unto thee, put your trust in that Spirit which leadeth to do good—yea, to do justly, to walk humbly, to judge righteously; and this is my Spirit. Verily, verily, I say unto you, I will impart unto you of my Spirit, which shall enlighten your mind, which shall fill your soul with joy” (D&C 11:12–13).
I believe that this is true, that we must take upon ourselves the name of Christ, always remember Him and keep His commandments, putting our trust in His Spirit. We have the privilege of being guided in all things by a member of the Godhead, if we are worthy. It should be our desire to have the companionship of the Holy Spirit at all times, in all things and in all places. What an amazing gift that we have as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!
Continue in faith! I love you all!
Love,
Sister Stanley
The attached picture is of many cute children who live in Timpolok, one of our most frequented areas. They were huddled together, and cutting up mangos to eat for a snack! Such a simple life in the Philippines! :-)
